My insomnia was quite severe, and it lasted about 10 years. I rarely slept at night; my eyes just stayed wide open. I listened to cars driving by and dogs barking. I even caught a thief at night, too. Sleeping pills did put me to sleep, but they made me dizzy during the day, making it dangerous to drive the next day. I took sleeping pills for one to two years until my wife stopped me. She said the pills did more harm than good, so I stopped taking them. I couldn’t sleep without my pills, so I didn’t know what to do. As a dump truck driver, I relied on coffee to stay awake, but too much coffee caused my heart to beat rapidly and I’d have to stop drinking coffee for a few days until my heartbeat returned to normal.
I used to have many health issues, one of which was insomnia. I had trouble falling asleep day or night; once I did, I was easily awakened, leaving me with only one or two hours of sleep a night. I saw several doctors; one of them said I had neurasthenia, and another said I was depressed. I had been using sedatives and sleeping pills for over 20 years, but even with the pills, I still couldn't sleep for many hours.
I was physically weak before I started practicing Energy Bagua. I had insomnia for more than 10 years. Not only could I not sleep well, but I’d wake up in the middle of the night with a feeling of fear. At that time, I often stayed in bed awake until dawn. I slept only two to three hours a day on average around 6 a.m. Lack of sleep put me in a very bad mood and a hot temper, and I felt so stressed. It felt as if something heavy was on my chest so I had trouble breathing normally; it was so tormenting. I live in a three-story house, but due to the pain in my knees and heels, I had trouble walking up the stairs, so I had to crawl up on all fours. In short, my whole body was very tired, and the doctor’s medications weren’t effective in dealing with the root causes of my problems.
I got used to drinking. I was drinking Kaoliang liquor with an alcohol content of 58% in 2010, and I couldn't fall asleep if I drank less than 500 ml. I slept very little every day. I was very tired and very moody. I had too many negative thoughts, I was bored and thought that life was hopeless.
I suffered from severe insomnia for 20 years. I divorced when I was 41 years old. After the divorce, I immigrated to the United States with my young daughter. At that time, I had to study at school during the day, do two jobs and take care of my daughter. So, I was exhausted, but couldn't sleep at night. I was nervous and irritable, had headaches and anxiety. My heart would suddenly beat very fast as if it was going to pop out, and sometimes it hurt. That pain was like being hit with an electric shock, which was very painful. Not only that, but when I combed my hair every morning, I found my hair fell out one by one, making me feel terrible.
When I was in my 40s, funding my three children’s college fees put me in a stressful state and led to the deterioration of my health. The heavy pressure of life caused insomnia for a long time. When I went to bed, I tossed and turned but couldn’t fall asleep. And then, I had to get up to go to the bathroom three or four times a night. As a result, I ended up sleeping for about two to three hours. It was tormenting.
I found I had heart problems 16 or 17 years ago. Wearing a 24-hour ECG monitor helped to find arrhythmia. At that time, I had 1 to 3 attacks every day as well as atrial fibrillation.
