(Hello, please introduce yourself.)
My name is Liu Yicheng. I am in my 40s, a normal working citizen. I like self-cultivation and meditation. Because I’m short, I started doing sports to overcome my insecurity. In life, there are many ways to relieve stress. I think sports and meditation are pretty good for that. But I like martial arts even more in terms of relieving my stress.
(These awards and medals won in many competitions are the result of his 10 years of hard work.)
(When did you start practicing Energy Bagua?)
February of this year. I was severely injured while preparing for a competition. At that time, this joint on the left was especially damaged. At first, it only hurt a bit. Because I had been injured before, I didn’t take it seriously. I rubbed ointment on it for over a week, but it didn’t get better. After going to the hospital, I was diagnosed with stage 3 osteoarthritis. The doctor said I should stop exercising.
(Osteoarthritis is a disease that hinders normal movement as the distance between joints becomes smaller and bones rub against each other.)
If I didn’t take anti-inflammatories, the pain would prevent me from walking. Even if I sat down to move a bit, my body would hurt. The slightest movements caused immense pain. This made me very frustrated. I even thought of just getting rid of this leg. I went to over 10 hospitals and tried many methods. I heard that artificial joints only last 15 years. I bore the pain and held off on surgery. People told me that if I couldn’t handle the pain, I should have surgery.
(He needed joint-replacement surgery because of his severe pain, but he didn’t want to have surgery.)
Playing sports led to a ruptured thumb ligament, so I underwent surgery. People who’ve undergone surgery know this. On that day, I lay on the hospital bed; the nurse brought me to the operating room. I lay on the hospital bed and watched the ceiling move. That feeling was very painful. Just a thumb-ligament surgery was very painful for me.
I am someone who can deal with stress as long as I do sports. I was hoping there would be other solutions. All the other methods weren’t helpful for my joints. So I searched online and found a meditative method practiced by circling a tree. You walk while meditating. After reading the article, I realized it was what I was looking for. So I started to gain interest in Energy Bagua.
(So his experience with Energy Bagua began. The desire to regain free movement and the ability to exercise filled his every day.)
After practicing Energy Bagua for a month, I became calmer. Before, I didn’t understand why I got this disease in my 40s. Others can do sports, why am I like this? What crime did I commit in my past life? I hate myself so much. Why do I have to endure such suffering? After practicing for around a month, I started to feel that maybe I was meant to experience the pain. Learning to accept is also a way to recover. This was the first change in me.
For some, there will be significant changes after 108 days. At around 90 days, I started to get excited. I was getting close to that goal. I started to count every day that passed, thinking that I would be better very soon. But I wasn’t better at the 100-day mark. Did I get scammed? Still 8 more days to go. Let’s wait till 108 days have gone by. So I kept practicing without skipping a single day. “Grandmaster, what should I do? Please let me recover.”, I thought while practicing.
(He was anxious due to the pain and desire for fast recovery, but change was happening gradually.)
Before practicing Energy Bagua, I was still taking medications. Gradually, the number of times I took medication decreased. My recovery process started to speed up. I don’t need medications to be able to walk now. This is something that I am really grateful for. Sometimes I feel like I was never sick.
Before, I couldn’t bend down to wash my feet because of the joint pain. But now I can bend down and lift my leg to a certain height. Gradually, I didn’t feel pain anymore. This is very surprising. Being able to lift my leg is also a big improvement.
(How long have you been practicing Energy Bagua?) For 199 days. (You remember the exact number.) Of course. My first goal is to practice for 1,000 days without skipping a day. I will also introduce it to people around me. After I retire from sports, I will share with more people how to practice Energy Bagua. At that time, I should be completely recovered. My goal is to completely recover.
