Saying Goodbye to Suboptimal Health

I am a senior technical manager with a biopharmaceutical company in the San Francisco Bay Area, a job I’ve held for over 20 years. In addition to working hard at my job, I raised my children, played golf, swam and attended fitness classes. For years I enjoyed good health.

Declining Health

More than a decade ago, the meniscus in my right knee was severely torn. Although I underwent surgery, my knee didn’t completely heal. Worried about further damage, I quit skiing.

In 2012, I received a promotion which led to greater work stress. My health deteriorated as I struggled to cope with work and family. Due to long hours of working at the computer, I often experienced pain and stiffness in my shoulders, arms and neck. I stopped outdoor games and swimming.

An MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) revealed no specific problems, but my pain continued. I tried various treatments such as nerve blocks (nerve blocks contain local anesthetic and are used to control acute pain), painkillers, acupuncture, and physiotherapy. The agony was unabated.

Three years went by, during which my health continue to decline. At the beginning of 2015, I was diagnosed with tennis elbows. I suffered swelling and could not raise my arms.

Though these were not life-threatening issues, I could not help feeling depressed. My monetary wealth had increased, but the quality of my life had deteriorated. I started to wonder about the true pleasures of life.

Return to Skiing

In July 2015, through a friend’s recommendation, I joined the Energy Bagua foundation course at Bai Lian Bodhi Meditation Center. I merely wanted to give it a try. Like many of the first-time practitioners, I did not experience any major change in my health immediately. However, after the initial session, I felt a sense of peace and relaxation which made me very happy.

I was unable to practice Energy Bagua daily given my work schedule, commute time, and getting my kids to and from school. Despite my irregular practice schedule, the stiffness in my shoulders and back eased and my pain was alleviated after about five months of practice.

My confidence in Energy Bagua increased and I committed to practicing every day. It was in May 2016 that my back and shoulders fully recovered. I can now swing my golf clubs.

Ever since then, I have been practicing Energy Bagua about four times a week. I am pleasantly surprised that my leg muscles have strengthened. My right knee is no longer as sore and weak. In the winters of 2017 and 2018, I was able to go skiing with my children.

In practicing Energy Bagua, there is a sense of great energy which I have never experienced previously. I am full of energy and vitality at work. In the past, I often felt physically weak when I faced a new task. Now I gladly take up the challenge when I get a new project from my supervisor. I am able to resolve problems quickly and work effectively with the team.

Greatest Pleasures

Currently, I’m an assistant Energy Bagua teacher. I’ve also volunteered as a receptionist at the front desk of the meditation center, as well as serving in the photography department.

Not only have I gained good health and happiness, I have also found that sharing my meditation experiences and great benefits with as many people as possible and then seeing them becoming healthy and happy are truly my greatest pleasures in life.
